Amateur Radio on Long Island
Amateur radio, also known as Ham Radio is a two way radio communication used for public service and recreation. Amateur radio operators converse with other operators all over the world. All amateur radio operators must be licensed.
They also serve the community by providing emergency and disaster communications.
Amateur radio operators use several types of transmissions in addition to Voice. While Voice transmissions are the most common.
Other types of communications are frequency modulation (FM) using high quality audio, Radiotelegraphy using Morse code, and single side band (SSB) which is more reliable in less strong signal areas.
