Jackson's - WOW
6005 jericho turnpike,
Commack NY 11725

The next time you find yourself hungry and in the Commack - Dix Hills area - stop by Jacksons. You won't be sorry.
Aside from the really poor choice of location, Jackson's seems to have done everything else right. Located just east of the Home Depot/Marshalls/Old Navy that's at the intersection of Larkfield Road and Jericho Turnpike - Jacksons is not easy to find in the little non descript strip across from MacDowell's Auto.
We stopped there today just after 3PM for a late lunch - early dinner. At once we were greeted warmly by staff and seated immediately. The decor is nice - clean and pottery barn - ish. But with a few kitchy pieces like the 50's gas pump that we were seated next to. But lets get to the menu!
The menu is clear and easy to read - but hard to order from. Why? Because I wanted one of everything! From Cuban and Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Burgers (traditional and turkey) to a reallllyyy looonnngg list of salad offerings, I just could not make a decision. Luckily our waitress was very helpful and made very definitive suggestions which resulted in very full tummies.
I ordered the cheeseburger - couldn't resist. Sauteed onions made it wonderful and the sweet potato fries were really good - a little bit less crispy than I like but it was a humid day and everything else was so good that I'll give them a pass. My Friend had the spinach salad - and the waitress suggested that it needed some protien and why don't you get it with the salmon. What a great suggestion as the huge piece of salmon, grilled to perfection, sent Nancy into bliss. She kept saying "this is really good", over and over and over.
My
daughter got the Pulled Pork sandwich and her friend got the Onion
Soup and Buffalo wings - they also split a Jackson Salad - which I
have to say was really very good. The next time we go to Jackson's
we're trying one of the other salads, maybe the Tropical Salad or
the Santa Fe Salad - they all looked so good.
My daughter and I split something that I think they called a French Toast Sundae. It was two giant pieces of Challah french toast - with Ice cream, bananas, whipped cream and some kind of maple sauce. It was truly an inspired dessert and one I will order again the next time I go to Jackson's to be sure. Nancy ordered the Pecan Pie - it was so tiny compared to our giant french toast pieces but really good and rich enough that a small piece was really all you need. My daughter's friend Keesha ordered the volcano cake - a chocolate filled chocolate cake with dulce de leche drizzled over - small, but again packing a punch. Keesha shared it with us reluctantly. What a wonderful girl! And Gita ordered the Apple Cake -also really - really - good!
We spent hours there, we were really well fed, we were treated really great by all the staff and we wouldn't leave until we took out our date books and made a date to go back next week - we want to try everything else on that menu.
Maybe you'll see us there - we're the ones talking way too loud and eating way too much..
